Time to Put Yourself First (Without the Guilt)

Hello, my friend!

I've been having the most interesting conversations with women lately, and there's a common thread that keeps coming up: "I've taken care of everybody else. Now it's time to focus on myself." Sound familiar?

As someone who inherited stepchildren at 26, I deeply understand this journey from constant caretaking to finally saying, "My well-being matters too." Today, I want to share some gentle ways to make that shift without the guilt that so often comes with putting ourselves first.

How to Put Yourself First (Without Apology)

There's something beautiful and necessary about the great awakening I'm witnessing in women right now. After decades of self-sacrifice—which, let's be honest, keeps our species thriving—many of us are finally saying "enough is enough."

But here's what I've learned: putting yourself first isn't selfish. It's survival.

The Healing Power of Nature

First on my list? Time in nature. Whether you're lucky enough to live near woods or ocean, or you have access to a simple city park, spending time outdoors brings calm and well-being on a cellular level. The science is clear: nature exposure improves immune function, mental clarity, and sleep quality. Your nervous system literally exhales when you step outside.

The Gift of Unstructured Time

Here's something revolutionary: allow for spontaneity in your schedule. I know, I know—as women, we're taught to be perpetual planners and managers. But making space for the unplanned allows us to unfold naturally and feel more comfortable in our own skin. It's like giving yourself permission to breathe.

The Sacred Act of Being Touched

As a bodyworker, I can't emphasize this enough: let someone with talent put their hands on you to help you feel better. I have two women who help me realign my energy—my Gyrotonic instructor, who embodies grace like a spritely former dancer, and Julia, my polarity therapist, to whom I simply say, "Do what you want with this body—I just want to feel better."

For many of you, I know I'm that person. You come to me and lie down on my amethyst-filled mat in our soothing environment, and you feel held and understood. If I'm not your person, please find someone you can trust with your sacred body. Because your body truly is your temple.

Remember: taking care of yourself isn't a luxury—it's a responsibility. Yes, you can prioritize your well-being without guilt!

How To Glow from The Inside Out

After 20 years of guiding skin transformations in my practice, I've learned that true radiance isn't about chasing the latest skincare trends—it's about understanding what's stealing your glow in the first place.

In my latest post, I reveal the hidden culprits behind dull skin that most people never consider: unprocessed emotions that create energetic blockages, poor sleep positioning that compresses lymphatic pathways, and inflammatory foods that show up as congested skin. Did you know that sleeping on your face can cause morning puffiness that lingers all day?

I share my holistic approach to achieving that coveted natural glow, including:

What to avoid: Those harsh gel cleansers, overuse of exfoliating acids, and aggressive ingredients like benzoyl peroxide that might have worked in your teens but are sabotaging your glow now.

What works: My favorite treatments like facial acupuncture for natural collagen production, lymphatic drainage to reduce puffiness, and microcurrent therapy for lifting and firming—plus simple at-home rituals you can start tonight.

The post includes my complete 6-step glow action plan and introduces concepts from Traditional Chinese Medicine about the mind-skin connection. Because when we address root causes instead of just symptoms, we create lasting change that radiates from within.

Ready to discover why some women naturally glow while others struggle? The answer might surprise you.

What I'm Reading

52 Ways to Walk by Annabel Abbs-Streets

If the pandemic taught me anything, it was the profound healing power of slow, mindful walking in nature. For 2-3 hours daily, I would walk really slowly—without technology, noticing beauty, allowing my mind to wander. This gentle movement helped me endure enormous mental challenges and got both my dog and me into incredible shape.

I'm not alone in this discovery. I recently met a woman who, after losing her daughter tragically, became a serious walker—covering 8-12 miles daily. Walking became her way to process grief and heal.

This fascinating book explores the science behind why walking is so transformative. Abbs-Streets reveals that not only how you walk, but where you walk, profoundly affects your internal emotional and physiological landscape. Walking realigns your skeletal system and harmonizes your nervous system—benefits we desperately need in our hyperconnected world.

The best part? Walking is free. The only challenge is finding the time to prioritize it.

Whether you're looking to take your walking practice to the next level or considering adding it to your routine, this book offers compelling evidence for why this simple act might be one of the most powerful medicines available to us.

Here's to moving forward—literally and figuratively—with intention and grace.
