The power of being touched ✨

Hello, my friend!

As I sit here writing to you, I'm feeling deeply grateful and restored after receiving some remarkable bodywork earlier this week. It got me thinking about the profound impact of therapeutic touch and how it connects us to both ancient wisdom and our basic human needs.

The Transformative Power of Bodywork & Being Touched

I had been feeling a bit down earlier this week - you know those days when everything feels just a little heavier than usual? After an hour of skilled, compassionate bodywork, I found myself driving home with a deep sigh of relief, thinking "wow, I actually feel good again."

As both a recipient and practitioner of bodywork, I'm constantly amazed by its power to recalibrate our entire being. I see it in my patients' faces as they leave my office, often asking for a hug (which of course I love to give!). That transformation from tension to release, from heaviness to lightness - it's nothing short of magical.

This healing practice dates back to the dawn of time, and there's profound wisdom in its persistence through the ages. While self-massage and exchanging touch with loved ones certainly have their place, experiencing the work of a skilled practitioner can be truly transformative. Their trained hands can guide us back to ourselves, releasing not just physical tension, but emotional burdens we didn't even know we were carrying.

Think of bodywork as a reset button for your nervous system. When we're touched with intention and care, our bodies respond by releasing tension, lowering stress hormones, and increasing feel-good chemicals like oxytocin. It's like hitting refresh on your whole system, helping you return to a state of balance and ease.

If you're feeling called to experience this ancient form of healing, listen to that intuition. Your body has profound wisdom - sometimes it just needs a little help remembering how to feel good again.

How To Simplify Your Skincare Routine

Ever feel overwhelmed by the endless stream of skincare products promising miracles? I get it. In my 20+ years of practice, I've seen how complicated skincare routines can actually stress our skin (and our minds!) rather than help them.

In my latest blog post, I break down why less truly can be more when it comes to skincare. Think about it - our grandmothers had beautiful skin with just a few simple products. Today's marketing might have us believing we need a 12-step routine, but overloading our skin with products can disrupt its natural balance, leading to sensitization, breakouts, and even premature aging.

I share practical tips for creating an effective skincare ritual that works with your skin's natural processes, not against them. You'll learn:

  • Why a minimalist routine can actually improve your skin's health
  • How to identify which products your skin really needs
  • The core essentials for every skin type
  • Signs your routine might be doing more harm than good

Remember, healthy skin isn't about having the most extensive routine - it's about having the right one for you. Yes, you can achieve that natural glow with fewer products!

Why Aren't We Losing Our Minds Over the Plastic in Our Brains?

A startling new study caught my attention this week - researchers have found that the average human brain may contain about 10 grams of microplastics. That's roughly equivalent to 2.5 teaspoons of plastic particles, about the weight of a crayon, quietly accumulating in our most precious organ.

As a healthcare practitioner focused on holistic wellness, I find this research both fascinating and concerning. The study shows that newer brain samples contain more plastic than those from a decade ago, suggesting our exposure is increasing over time. While scientists are still working to understand the full health implications, there are some practical steps we can take:

  • Choose glass or stainless steel containers when possible
  • Avoid heating food in plastic containers
  • Filter your drinking water
  • Minimize plastic food packaging
  • Support brands using sustainable packaging

What I love about this article is how it balances scientific findings with actionable solutions. While we can't eliminate all plastic exposure in modern life, we can make informed choices to reduce our daily contact with these materials.

The research serves as a powerful reminder that environmental health and personal health are deeply interconnected. This isn't about fear - it's about awareness and making mindful choices where we can.
