A Social Summer Survival Guide 🏖

Hello, my friend!

Finally, beautiful weather is upon us! We've endured our fair share of wet, slightly cloudy June weather, and summer officially kicked off yesterday.

With all the socializing and gorgeous days ahead, it can be a bit of a challenge—one that requires some considered effort, especially if you're someone like me who is, deep down, a bit of an introvert.

This week, I'm sharing my social summer survival guide, along with some thoughts on aromatherapy and supporting women through pregnancy with acupuncture.

A Social Summer Survival Guide

The art of summer balance: Don't get me wrong—I love the energy of summer gatherings, the spontaneous meals, and those long evenings that stretch into night. But all that beautiful chaos can be overwhelming if we don't create some intentional space for ourselves.

It's important to schedule downtime. Make sure there's time to stare out the window, look at the sky, or take an intentional retreat from the excited frenzy and jubilant cacophony of the season of being together with those we love.

Your Summer Sanity Toolkit

Here are a few strategies I've learned to help navigate the social whirlwind without burning out:

Practice the "sandwich method": Book something restorative before and after big social events—even if it's just 20 minutes of quiet time.

Give yourself permission to leave early: You don't need to be the last person at every gathering. Early goodbyes are completely acceptable.

Schedule "nothing" time: Block out time in your calendar for absolutely nothing. Protect it like you would any important appointment.

Find your recharge ritual: Whether it's a morning walk, afternoon tea, or evening bath, have something that consistently fills your cup.

As you carve out this time, I hope this newsletter becomes one of those moments where you can just relax, lean back, put up your feet, and take a breather.

Remember: Yes, you can enjoy a full social calendar without losing yourself in the process.

Navigating Pregnancy with Acupuncture: A Guide to Safe Practices

In the first 12 years of my private practice, I focused exclusively on women's reproductive health—think of it as my ob/gyn era, if you will. During that time, fertility clients made up about 95% of my practice, and I was honored to support women on their journey to conception.

Recently, I've found myself gravitating back to this work, and honestly? It's been absolutely joyous. There's something magical about watching a woman's vitality bloom alongside her growing belly—the way her energy shifts, the gentle flutter of movement I can feel while placing needles, the palpable excitement that fills the treatment room. It's pure hope in motion, and it reminds me why I fell in love with this work in the first place.

Whether you're trying to conceive, newly pregnant, or supporting someone who is, acupuncture offers incredible benefits throughout this journey. From supporting fertility to easing morning sickness to preparing for labor, this ancient practice can be a gentle, effective companion during one of life's most transformative experiences.

What I'm Reading

Aromatherapy: A Complete Guide to the Healing Art by Mindy Green

As a child in the early 1970s, my happy place was in the biggest beech tree in Newton, Massachusetts which stood proudly in our back yard. Whenever I was seeking solace, I would scramble behind the tree and crawl up into its warm embrace. Almost like an elephant—gray, knobby hide and so immense compared to my young body.

Connecting with nature has always made me feel better, more grounded, and at peace. Nothing has changed.

One way I relaxed this week was putting my feet up after work and opening up this beautiful book by Mindy Green about aromatherapy—exploring how raw herbs you can even grow in your garden can be transformed into healing remedies for your body and home. From digestive issues to skin ailments and everything in between, nature offers us such incredible medicine.

Mindy Green is one of the most well-known experts in the world of aromatherapy, and her books are not only deeply informative but wonderfully accessible. I love how she makes it possible to transform your kitchen—and perhaps your bathroom too—into spaces where you can mix up healing remedies that genuinely make you feel better.

What's your relationship with nature? Does it ground you the way it grounds me? I'd love to hear about your own rituals for connecting with the natural world.

Remember: You can find healing in the simplest places.

Wishing you a week filled with grace, connection, and the magic of choosing kindness.
